Thailand is full of amazing spot, every province has their own beauty, and each has different kind of attraction waiting for you. Some are full of history, some offers access to nature, some have nice beaches, and some are rich in culture. Once you get to explore these places you will see why many people come to Thailand, and why some decided to live here but not in Bangkok. These are some provinces in Thailand both big and small, each has their own charm, and we will tell you what theirs are.
We will start with a small place near Bangkok that is easy to travel by train, The province used to be the capital of Siam, that’s why it’s historical and full of ruins, temples, and old palace. This is Ayutthaya.
Ayutthaya
The former capital city of Siam offers real history of Thailand from the past, some places from the time are still available to check-out. Some temples and ruins are said to be older than 200-300 years. Not only that, but you can also have a new experience here with the Elephant training ground where you can see some elephant talent shows and ride one yourself. If you love history this is the place for you, and you need only a day trip to love Ayutthaya. Here are some places worth checking in Ayutthaya
- Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon: A temple with large reclining buddha and impressive stupa you can climb.
- Ayutthaya historical park: An area full of ancient ruins from history.

Now that we have explored history, we will be moving closer to nature. Thailand well known spot for nature traveling are the Northern of Thailand and one big place called Khao Yai. The big tourist destination with nature is Chiang Mai, a place that perfectly blends culture, natural beauty, and modern together. And if we go further north to Chiang Rai this is the place surrounded by mountains and trees, a true nature paradise.
Khao Yai
Starting this one with a big nature spot “Khao Yai” it takes place from Nakhon Ratchasima to a little of Saraburi and Prachinburi, and it’s a short drive from Bangkok with only 2.5-3 hours. The destination we are going to explore is Khao Yai national park (Thailand oldest national park). Inside you will find yourself surrounded by nature if you love hiking, camping, or wildlife, this is the place for you. It’s also having waterfalls for you to relax during the day, and during night you can go on a night safari tour with staff to spot some animals at night this is a great experience. But if you like to spot them in the daytime during your hiking you can also see some of them like Elephants, gibbons, hornbills, deer, and porcupines. If you love adventure through nature, kind of travel Khao Yai is the perfect place.
Chiang Mai
The second place would be more blend, less nature but still a lot of it compared to other places, it’s Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai offers a perfect mix of culture, nature, and modern life, it’s still surrounded by mountains and trees but with some more temples and ruins and a center of the city full of cafés and bars. You can fly to Chiang Mai directly from Bangkok and it’s a reasonable price; there are also many types of accommodation for you to stay so don’t worry about that. - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep: Chiang Mai’s most iconic temple, perched on a mountain with panoramic views.
- Sunday Walking Street (Tha Pae Gate): Huge night market with food, art, handicrafts, and music — only on Sundays.
- Doi Inthanon National Park: Thailand’s highest mountain. Visit waterfalls, the Royal Twin Pagodas, and enjoy cool air.
- Mon Cham: Mountain village with flower gardens, glamping, and views
- Nimmanhaemin: Trendy neighborhood with cafes, boutiques, co-working spots, and nightlife.
Chiang Rai
The quieter and more offbeat sibling of Chiang Mai located up north of Thailand near the Laos and Myanmar borders, with just a few hours drive from Chiang Mai, or you can fly directly from Bangkok. Chiang Rai is known for its stunning temple, lush landscapes, and big mountains. It’s perfect for someone looking for a few days trip with less tourist vibe, more nature and slower lifestyle. Now that we have explore nature and history sides of Thailand, we cannot miss one more top destination for travelers “the beaches”. Thailand has many provinces connected to the sea that’s why they offer beautiful beaches and Seaview. Most of them are in the Southern of Thailand but there are still some of them near Bangkok easily able to travel by train or bus. We would like to suggest these provinces as your choice Rayong, Krabi, and Phuket.
Rayong
Let’s start with some where not too far from Bangkok with a few hours’ bus ride to “Rayong” a low-key beach destination on Thailand’s eastern Gulf coast. Often overshadowed by Pattaya or Phuket but the part of Rayong charm is that it’s less crowded. There are also many beaches and islands in Rayong for you to experience, and here are some of them
- Koh Samet: we cannot suggest Rayong without mentioning Koh Samet, a very popular beach with only 45 minutes boat-ride. On this island you can find beautiful beaches such as Ao Phai & Sai Kaew, and Ao Karang
- Mae Ramphueng Beach: The main beach of Rayong is still quiet on weekends but will be crowded during holidays. It has great street food and seafood restaurants nearby.
- Rayong Aquarium: A good stop if you happen to come here during rainy days, perfect for families.
Krabi
Krabi province is one of Thailand must stunning coastal destinations, famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs, clear water and paradise islands. It’s less crowded than Phuket since it’s not advertised as much but still has the same level of beauty to give you. You can travel here from Bangkok by plane and go to the beaches and islands by speed boat. The best time to visit is during November – April since they are less likely to rain at that time. If you are planning to visit Krabi these are the places you don’t want to miss.
- Railay Beach: The most famous beach in Krabi, only accessible by boat even though it’s a part of the mainland. It’s surrounded by giant cliffs and clear water and there are four beaches here Railay West, Railay East, Phra Nang Cave Beach, and Tonsai Beach
- Koh Phi Phi: It’s technically part of Krabi best known for Maya Bay with a mix of nature and nightlife.
- Koh Lanta: A more laid-back island with long beaches perfect for families with great diving/snorkeling experiences.
- Ao Nang: The main tourist hub full of restaurants and bars, it’s a great spot to celebrate.
Phuket
Thailand’s most popular island a destination that offers beaches, nightlife, culture, nature, and luxury, all in one place. Mostly crowded during high season, this is the island everyone wants to visit during their time in Thailand. Many famous spots are also located here, so it’s very comfortable to visit Phuket. It’s like a full travel package with lots of experiences.
