As we mentioned at the end of our last blog, today’s topic is going to be about attractions in Bangkok. Some places you may hear of some you may not, we’ll try our best to recommend something new to you.
Bangkok is the perfect blend of modern and culture, with many temples, palaces, shopping malls, galleries, night markets, and even bars. Some of them might be one of the worlds famous you want to see when you arrive. But we would like to introduce you to cultural attractions first.
Before we start keep in mind that some places may have scammers trying to sell you overpriced trips, and some temples may have entrance fees for foreigners. Also remember to dress appropriately with no shorts that do not cover your knees, no tank tops.
We will start with temples there are three temples we would recommend you visit once in Bangkok and yes Wat Arun is one of them.
1. Wat Arun or the temple of dawn :
Located on Thonburi side of Chao Phraya River, the temple features a towering central prang decorated with ceramic tiles. With the riverside view and the beauty of the temple, Wat Arun is perfect for late visits to enjoy both the temple and the sunset by the river. Wat Arun’s entrance fee for foreigners is 200 THB and is Free for Thai citizens. The open time Is from 8.00 AM. To 06.00 PM daily.
2. Wat Sake :
Also known as the Golden Mount, is on the top of an artificial hill crowned by a golden stupa, with panoramic views of the city. Climbing up the temples staircases to feel the breeze and beauty of the city along with the history of the temple. The entrance fee is 100 THB and open daily from 07.00AM. – 07.00 PM.
3. Wat Benchamabophit :
Or the Marble Temple, was built in the early 1900s. Known for its magnificent use of Carrara marble and design. The temple is a good example of modern Thai architecture. The entrance fee for Wat Benchamabophit is 100 THB per person and open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily
The next section will be about galleries and museums in Bangkok, to make you trip more historical these places are full of Thai arts and history through arts, artifacts, and history shown in the museum.
Let’s start with galleries first to see if these three different kinds of art galleries will amaze you.
1. Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC)
A dynamic exhibition hosting hub for art, music, film, theatre, and more, with it’s highly accessible just a few steps from BTS National Stadium or less than 10 minus walk from Siam Paragon. Each floor showcases different exhibition rotate every few months, so every time you return there it will be less likely to see the same on your saw. It’s free to enter and open from 10 AM–8 PM, the place is close on Monday and public holidays.
2. MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)
One of Thailand’s popular art galleries with impressive showcase of Modern and Contemporary Thai art along with some international work. The minimalist modern building in Chatuchak area with spans of five floors, the gallery showcases paintings, sculptures, and conceptual installation arts. Most of them are related to Thai culture, folklores, society, and spirituals. It’s more difficult to get to since it’s not located in the heart of the city, to get there you will need to take a bus from the nearest BTS or MRT station (BTS Mochit and MRT Chatuchak). MOCA opens from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The entrance fee is 300 THB for adults and 120 THB for students, children under the age of 13 and senior over 60 and people with disabilities can enter the gallery for free.
3. River City & Warehouse 30 :
Located near Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s historic district “Charoen Krung”, the River City & Warehouse 30 are two of the city’s most popular art spots. While the river city is an elegant riverside arts gallery best known for rotations of modern arts and exhibitions. The Warehouse 30 has more industrial vibe, housed in WWII renovated warehouse filled with cafes, indie boutiques, and creative studios. Together, these two form the heart of Bangkok’s Art and Creative District. There is no entrance fee for both locations. The opening hours for River City are 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. While Warehouse 30 opens from 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM,
There are many museums in Bangkok each tells a different story throughout the history of Thailand and here are some museums worth visiting once while travelling Bangkok.
1. Siriraj Medical Museum :
Also known as “Museum of Death” it’s located inside Siriraj Hospital, near Wang Lang Pier. The focus of the museum is about anatomy, medicine, and pathology. Inside you will find real preserve organs, mummies, and forensic exhibits. The main attraction of the museum is the exhibit of the person said to be Thailand’s serial killer. This place is not suitable for sensitive visitors but if you are a true crime fan this is the place for you. The entrance fee is 200 THB for a single museum, if you wish to explore both Siriraj Phimuksthan Museum and the Siriraj Medical Museum the fee would be 300 THB. The opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
2. Jim Thompson House Museum :
It’s not far from National Stadium BTS, the main showcases of the museum would be Southeast Asia art, architecture, and silk industry. This is very popular location, inside there will be collection of antiques from Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. It’s also showcase Home of America silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson. Learn how Jim Thompson helped revive Thai silk industry through guide tour. The entrance fee is 250 Baht for adults Visitors and 150 baht for visitors under 22 years (ID required) Children under 10 years of age, when accompanied by a parent, entrance is free. Jim Thompson House is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM,
3. Museum Siam :
Located near Sanam Chai area opposite Wat Pho, Thai culture and National identity is the focus of the museum. What you will see in Museum Siam are temporary exhibitions on food, pop culture, and history. There are also interactive exhibits and English-Friendly displays for educational purpose. It’s suitable for families, and those who want to learn Thai culture. The entrance fee is 100 THB for adults, 50 THB for students with IDs and a group of 5+ people. It’s free for children under 15 and elderly over 60. It’s open 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Sunday, and is closed on Mondays.
