If you are an early bird and feeling like cooking, Local market is a place for you. Unlike night markets where they are mainly focused on street food, clothes, accessories, and vibes, the local market offers a raw, more authentic, more local feeling. They are messier, louder, and smellier due to most of the products sold inside local market are raw products like meat, vegetables, freshly caught fish, and some street food you can only find in the morning.

In Thailand local markets start really early, they usually start around 5.30-6.00 AM. Most of the customers here are locals, street vendor owners, or people who are looking to refill their fridges. We wouldn’t suggest you visit the local market later than 8.30 AM. Because some stores may be sold out or closed and there are only fewer people walking and shopping. The atmosphere will be different after 8.30 AM.  But don’t worry Thai local markets are not always open during early day time, sometimes they are open in the evening around 5.00 PM. This time there will be fewer fresh and raw products, instead they focus on ready-to-eat food in the evening opening time, so that after coming back from work you will be able to find varieties of food and at a cheaper price than normal night markets.

If you wonder if it would be hard to find a local market in Thailand, the answer is no. They are around 3 local markets in just one district of Bangkok; it may be harder if you live in the countryside. Just spend a few hours on your free time walking around your neighborhood area, and you will find at least a small local market, where you can buy anything, you want from.
